Dumaguete is a university city, with four large universities and several other colleges, attracting students of the province and students of surrounding provinces and cities in Visayas and Mindanao. The city is best known for Silliman University, the first Protestant and American university in the country and Asia.

Mount Halcon - San Jose del Monte, Philippines
Its height of 2,586 meters makes it the 18th highest peak in the Philippines. Its steep slopes have earned it the reputation of being the most difficult mountain to climb in the country. Mount Halcon is home to the indigenous Alangan Mangyans. The mountain was also the location of a possible World War II Japanese holdout.
