Orono, located on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka, is known for its rural rolling countryside dotted with lakes and wetlands, creeks, woods, and steep slopes. The city is home to two communities: Crystal Bay and Navarre. Navarre serves as Orono’s commercial center.

The historical center of the city is situated north of the Teutoburg Forest line of hills, but modern Bielefeld also incorporates boroughs on the opposite side and on the hills. The city is situated on the Hermannsweg, a hiking trail that runs for 156 km along the length of the Teutoburg Forest.
