Ib Antoni lived a short and intense life. In the late 1950s, only 27 years of age, he sat behind the desk in one of the greatest advertising agencies on Madison Avenue in New York, and just a few years later he became one of the world's most coveted advertising designers in the crowd today known as the "Mad Men" of the advertising industry.
In Denmark Ib Antoni was called the ”national illustrator of Denmark”, because his posters with The Little Mermaid, Tivoli, and Copenhagen were - and still are - a part of creating the narrative of the native country and the national brand, that attracts visitors from all over the world. A narrative of great and clean-cut designs and the love of fairytales taken straight out of H. C. Andersen's adventure.

A banner with a white-on-red cross is attested as having been used by the kings of Denmark since the 14th century. An origin legend with considerable impact on Danish national historiography connects the introduction of the flag to the Battle of Lindanise of 1219.

The elongated Nordic cross, which represents Christianity, reflects its use as a maritime flag in the 18th century. The flag became popular as a national flag in the early 16th century. The flag holds the Guinness world record of being the oldest continuously used national flag, that is since 1625.

No official definition of "Dannebrog rød" exists. The private company Dansk Standard, regulation number 359 (2005), defines the red colour of the flag as Pantone 186c.
