Saga International Balloon Fiesta - Saga, Japan

The fiesta is held just outside Saga City, along the Kase River. It has grown from a gathering of 5 hot air balloons to a competition where over 3500 people volunteer and has gained a reputation as one of the top ballooning competitions in the world. 

It is also a popular time for tourists as the Karatsu Kunchi Festival is held at the same time in Karatsu City. Since 1980 the launch site has been visited by over 10 million spectators.

This small town used to produce charcoal and therefore was called Arang - there used to be a carbon mine at the first mile of the coast road.

Port Dickson evolved into a busy trading center. Railways were constructed to facilitate the growth and development of the town. Although Port Dickson experienced rapid development, its beaches are fairly well preserved.

 

Ukifune by Aya Yasuzawa - Takatsuki, Japan

Ukifune is the nickname of a princess in The Tale of Genji, the unrecognized daughter of the Eighth Prince. The 51st chapter of the story is named after her. Literally, Ukifune means "A Boat Set Adrift"; her real name is not specified.

The Tale of Genji is a classic work of Japanese literature written in the early 11th century by the noblewoman and lady-in-waiting Murasaki Shikibu. 

The work is a unique depiction of the lifestyles of high courtiers during the Heian period. It is written in archaic language and a poetic yet confusing style that makes it unreadable to the average Japanese person without dedicated study.

It is a flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town. It is a significant tourist attraction, with many visitors using the cableway or hiking to the top.

The king protea is the national flower of the country. 

The Galata Bridge - Thorshavn, Faroe Islands

Torshavn - the largest city of the Faroe Islands archipelago, at the same time its capital and seat of the highest authorities of this Danish dependent territory. The name Thorshavn in Danish means Port Thor, the Norse god of storm and thunder.

Teiči Nature Reserve - Riga, Latvia

The reserve is home to a number of rare or threatened species, including 38 protected species of flowering plants and ferns and 24 protected species of moss.  

On one of the islands in the nature reserve, Siksala, a small group of Old Believers lived. Ethnic Russians, they arrived on Siksala island in the 17th century, escaping religious persecution, and still maintain their village.

In the medieval castle of Kastelholm, on the ceiling of one of the halls, there are coats of arms of all fortress owners.

Among them is the White Eagle on a red background, which proves that the owner of the castle was Katarzyna Jagiellonka, the youngest daughter of King Sigismund I the Old of Poland, wife of King Jan III Vasa of Sweden and mother of Sigismund III Vasa.
