Known as the European tax haven, it has operated a tax-free system since the 1770s. For decades, Monaco made a living mainly from its casinos. Currently, Monaco's efforts to diversify its economy have made tourism the largest source of income with casinos as low as 5%.
More than 50 Hollywood films have been made in Monaco, including Iron Man 2 and Madagascar 3.
