#59 FOTW - Cardiff, Wales

One of the most interesting facts about Cardiff is that the city has its own island that you can visit. Flat Holm Island is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. On the island, you can admire seabird colonies, war barracks, and a devastated hospital where people were treated for cholera, and even enjoy a pint at Wales' southernmost pub, 'Gull and Leek'.
Flat Holm is also the site of the world's first message sent overseas by radio signal when Italian inventor Marconi sent a Morse code message to Lavernock Point on May 13, 1897.
