This North Holland polder mill was built in the 17th century and restored in 1974/1980. It has yet to be discovered exactly when the first windmills appeared in the Netherlands, but in 1414 the first drainage windmills were built. Around 1450, there were many of them, especially in the province of Zuid Holland. However, windmills do not come from the Netherlands. They probably came to Europe from the Middle East during the Crusades.
