The regulations and clarification of the dimensions, colours and symbolism of the flag of the Autonomous Region were approved by decree of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira on July 28, 1978.

The blue represents the environment that characterizes insularity and represents nobility, beauty and serenity. The gold mirrors the mildness of the archipelago's climate and symbolizes wealth, strength, faith, purity and constancy.

The Cross of the Order of Christ alludes to the following historical fact: the archipelago was discovered by two knights of the Household Henry the Navigator, who was Grand Master of the Military Order of Christ: João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira; becoming therefore a symbol of connection with Portugal.

 

Gudetama - Hong Kong

Gudetama is a cartoon character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio.

The name Gudetama is formed from two parts: the first is the ideophone “gudegude” which is used to evoke the impression of something lazy and lacking energy. 

The second part is from the Japanese word “tamago” which means egg.

Therefore, Gudetama can be translated into English as "lazy egg". Gudetama's personality and appearance match its name, as it is a depressed egg.

 

Ladya - Samara, Russia

The stele "Ladya"  is a monumental sculptural composition, one of the sights of Samara. It is a massive concrete structure of twenty meters in height. It was erected in 1986 by the project of the Samara architects Anatoly Yankin and Igor Galakhov.

The monument stylized depicts an ancient sailing boat floating on the waves, personifying the history of the region when ships of Russian merchants and knights passed by the banks of the Volga.

The history of Goslar is closely related to the mining of metal ores in the current district of Rammelsberg. Founded in 922, the city became the seat of the emperors of the Salic dynasty, who built an imperial palas here (German: Kaiserpfalz) to better control silver production.

In 1992, the medieval old town of Goslar with the mine in Rammelsberg was entered on the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

Mickey Mouse and Pluto - Narita, Japan

The nameless prototype of Pluto appeared in the cartoon entitled "The Chain Gang" in 1930 as a tracking dog to find Miki, an escapee from prison. 

The name "Pluto" was first heard in the short film "The Moose Hunt" (1931). We first saw him as Miki's pet in the cartoon "Mickey's Pal Pluto" (1933), where he was very devoted to his master and tried to protect him.

The flag of the State of Israel was adopted on 28 October 1948, five months after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. 

The blue stripes are intended to symbolize the stripes on a tallit, the traditional Jewish prayer shawl. The Star of David is a widely acknowledged symbol of the Jewish people and Judaism. In Judaism, the colour blue symbolises God's glory, purity and gevurah (God's severity). The White field represents Chesed (Divine Benevolence).

The Israelites used a blue-coloured dye called tekhelet; this dye may have been made from the marine snail Murex trunculus. This dye was very important in both Jewish and non-Jewish cultures of this time and was used by royalty and the upper class in dyeing their clothing, sheets, curtains, etc.

Gauja National Park in Latvia - Brest, Belarus

Gauja National Park is the largest national park in Latvia, with an area of 917.86 km² running from the north-east of Sigulda to the south-west of Cēsis along the valley of the Gauja River, from which the park takes its name.

The national park is characterized by high biological diversity, rock outcrops and varied terrain shapes, springs, picturesque landscapes, and many historical and cultural monuments from different centuries. 

 

Flowers - Port Dickson, Malaysia

This small town used to produce charcoal and therefore was called Arang - there used to be a carbon mine at the first mile of the coast road.

Port Dickson evolved into a busy trading center. Railways were constructed to facilitate the growth and development of the town. Although Port Dickson experienced rapid development, its beaches are fairly well preserved.
