#54 FOTW - Beirut, Lebanon

The name Lebanon is the oldest country name in the world, it has not been changed for over 4,000 years. Historically a country of the Phoenicians, later under the rule of the Roman Empire, Lebanon became one of the leading centers of Christianity in the Empire. A monastic tradition known as the Maronite Church arose in the Lebanese mountains.
