Bryce Canyon National Park was established on September 15, 1928. Its current area is 145.02 km². The park and canyon are named after the Mormon pioneer Ebenezer Bryce.
The oldest traces of the presence of Indians in the Colorado Plateau, on which Bryce Canyon lies, date back 12,000 years, although they were not found in the immediate vicinity of the park.
