The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona.
The canyon is 446 km long, up to 29 km wide and attains a depth of over a mile (1,857 meters); age 5–6 million years.
Grand Canyon National Park was established as the 17th U.S. National Park on February 26, 1919.
