#12 GF - Sydney, Australia

During the official opening of the Sydney Harbor Bridge on March 19, 1932, Francis De Groot, a retired cavalry officer, galloped on a horse and cut the opening ribbon with a sword, announcing the opening of the bridge on behalf of "decent New South Wales citizens." De Groot was later fined.

After the withdrawal of Australian 1 and 2-centile coins in 1991, they were melted and used at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games as bronze medals.
